Assurance Map for Microsoft Teams
Getting started
- Add the tab. In the Teams channel your audit, risk or governance team already uses, click + at the top of the channel, choose Assurance Map, and save. There is also a personal tab if you want a private map.
- Create a map and add your principal risks — the ones your audit committee sees, typically ten to twenty.
- Add assurance sources — the functions that provide assurance: information security, health and safety, internal audit, external audit, compliance, and so on — each with its line of defence.
- Record activities: what each source does, how often, and when it last happened. Store evidence as a reference or a link, never a copy.
- Map coverage: connect each activity to the risks it assures. The tiles at the top then compute themselves.
What the classifications mean
| Classification | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unassured | No activity currently covers this risk at all. |
| Stale | The only work covering this risk has gone out of date given its declared frequency. |
| Self-assessment only | The risk is covered only by the risk owner's own first-line self-assessment — materially weaker than independent review. |
| Duplicated | Two or more activities on the same line of defence review the same risk — assurance budget spent twice. |
| Reliance basis | Whether a documented basis for reliance (competence, objectivity, adequacy of evidence) is recorded, as Standard 9.5 expects. |
Plans
The included plan covers one map, one team, up to five people and ten risks, with live coverage and currency analysis. Paid plans add unlimited risks and maps, sources maintained in other teams aggregated into one map, reliance and duplication analysis, analysis as at a past date, committee snapshots and CSV export. Subscriptions are purchased and billed through the Microsoft commercial marketplace.
Known limitations (v1)
- Rows cannot yet be edited or deleted after creation — add a corrected row instead.
- No CSV import of an existing spreadsheet yet.
- Authoring is desktop and web; on mobile the tab is read-only in practice.
